Precautions for Storing a Hydraulic Breaker During the Rainy Season

With the rainy season upon us, we’d like to remind hydraulic breaker users:

  1. Avoid leaving the hydraulic breaker lying flat outdoors, as the lower cylinder housing is not sealed and may allow rainwater to enter. The piston is pushed by nitrogen gas toward the front of the lower cylinder; if the breaker is used immediately, this is not a problem. However, if it is left idle overnight, water ingress can cause the piston to rust, leading to damage to the oil seals.

   

  1. When the breaker is not in use, place sleepers under its rear end to elevate it, preventing rainwater from flowing down the drill rod and back into the cylinder, which could cause water to damage the piston.

 

3. If the hydraulic breaker is not used for a period of time… For use, please store it as follows.

Both flexible and rigid pipes must be fitted with plugs. (After the toilet paper becomes clogged, wrap the fitting with a glove.)

Release the nitrogen gas from the upper cylinder body.

Remove the drill rod.

Align a round rod with the piston’s striking face and tap the piston into the upper cylinder block.

Apply extra grease to the front of the lower cylinder block.

 

4. To protect the hydraulic breaker, please Place it in a location protected from rain and water exposure, with the upper cylinder slightly elevated above the lower one, and cover it with a protective film. Improper storage can cause the exposed piston to rust, resulting in oil leakage along the drill rod when the tool is used again.
